Blood DonorI have been a blood donor ever since I was old enough in 1955. For many years, it was the Canadian Red Cross that collected blood, but latterly it has been the Canadian Blood Services. My most recent donation was
June 30, 2006 when I made my one hundred and forty second(142nd)
donation. I am next scheduled for a donation September 29, 2006. When I started donating, donations were allowed only twice a year, but now one can (and I do) donate every 56 days (8 weeks). I encourage everyone to be a donor! It takes only about an hour, and can give someone "the gift of life". There is another program called the Unrelated Marrow Donor Registry. I was part of it too, until I reached its mandatory retirement age. I still have a few years to go as a blood donor though. Thanks for visiting! Dick Carpani |
