Lambton County Board of Education

My political activities began with the LCBE. The start for me was in 1979 when a Secondary School Teachers strike affected my children. I started to go to the Board meetings, and decided to run for the Board in 1980. I was defeated by just 50 votes. I became active in the Sarnia  Northern Collegiate parent's advisory committee. (This was before the advent of parent councils; it was a school initiative.) I tried again in 1982 this time elected to the LCBE. I was one of the more active members of that board. I was chair of the personnel committee one year and the vice chair of the board in the 84/85 year. I was defeated in the 1985 election but re-elected in each of the 1988, 1991 and 1994 elections. I was Chairman of the board for1990/91.

With my children past high school age, and with the structural changes in the Boards of education, I decided not to run again  in the 1997 election.
